Join Us on the Path to Mortgage-Freedom

It’s true. The path is made by walking. But in walking, we find community, and we learn from others who’ve been there before us. I am grateful to those who walked this path before us and took the time to share their story–we stumble less because of them. We gleaned a lot of inspiration from Rob Roy and other owner-builders, like the folks at countryplans.com.

It’s time for sharing our particular version of this path. Our very first e-course, The Plan: Creating Your Pathway to Mortgage-freedom is underway, and I am so excited about what’s happening in the course. The first session of the course filled up so quickly, that we’ve planned another session in May.

I feel passionately that we can create a happier society if we can free more people from the system that keeps us in a cycle of working for a mortgage and buying things for work. If we remove a mortgage from the equation, folks are free to choose fulfilling work even if it means earning less money. I envision more and more people realizing home-ownership without debt. In doing this we’re making great strides toward a freer and more creative society.

Last night at dinner Karl asked us what day it was. It was Monday.

“Every day feels like Saturday,” he said. This coming from a former 60 hour-a-week chef who now works from home doing what he loves shows what removing a mortgage will do for your life.

We’re living the dream! It was one of those moments where in a flash I could see the whole darn picture. I looked back and saw the path that led here. I saw our early pain, our early dreams, our tireless work, and all the little decisions we made along the way.

And then I saw us now–here at this folding table in our tiny house. With our main house standing proud up the hill. We’re here! We’re right where we dreamed we’d be, working the plan and getting there all in the right time. Gratitude surge!

What an amazing feeling to look back and see that it’s true: One step leads to the next; one board at a time a mortgage-free homestead is built!
